The "Monarch Mark I-A" incorporates the most popular method of operation and the least fatiguing possible. The brake is applied by pushing the control handle directly toward the brake. The accelerator is activated by moving the handle toward the seat, at a right angle to the brake movement and parallel, or near parallel, to the rim of the steering wheel. We believe this device incorporates the most natural method of brake and accelerator movement possible and is almost a "must" for a quadriplegic driver or a person with severe hand and wrist weakness. Generally the weight of the driver's hand and arm is sufficient to maintain a desired speed. Both the brakes and accelerator may be applied at the same time if necessary. This is desired by some persons and is sometimes helpful when starting or maneuvering on severe grades.
